What is the Apprentice Massage Clinic?

The Apprentice Massage Clinic is an essential part of our apprenticeship program, giving apprentices the opportunity to develop confidence, clinical reasoning, communication, and hands-on skills while caring for real clients in a professional environment.
Every appointment allows apprentices to integrate what they have learned in anatomy, assessment, therapeutic techniques, ethics, communication, and treatment planning. Throughout the experience, apprentices receive ongoing guidance, feedback, and support from Licensed Massage Therapists and Certified Mentors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my massage be supervised?

Yes. Every apprentice works under the guidance of a Certified Mentor throughout their clinical education. During your appointment, a mentor may periodically check in to ensure the apprentice feels confident, answer questions, offer guidance, or assist with clinical decision-making when appropriate.

These check-ins are a normal part of the learning process and help apprentices continue building their skills while ensuring clients receive safe, thoughtful, and professional care.

Will the massage be different than seeing a licensed therapist?

Apprentices are still developing their clinical skills, so appointments may move at a slightly slower pace. They are learning to combine technical skill with thoughtful clinical reasoning while providing safe, professional care.

How long are appointments?

Appointment lengths vary depending on where apprentices are in the program and the educational objectives they are working toward. We currently offer 60 and 90 minute massage sessions.

Who can schedule?

Members of the public are welcome to participate, provided there are no contraindications that would make student treatment inappropriate.

Can I tip my therapist?

Apprentices are not permitted to accept gratuities during their clinical education. If you would like to recognize the care you received, we gratefully accept donations to our Apprentice Scholarship Fund. Every donation helps support future apprentices by reducing financial barriers to massage therapy education, allowing more aspiring therapists to pursue their training and serve our community.
