Apprentice Life
Can I work while completing the apprenticeship?
Many apprentices successfully balance work, family, and their apprenticeship. Our schedule is intentionally designed to provide consistency while allowing flexibility whenever possible. We encourage each applicant to carefully consider their personal commitments and discuss any scheduling concerns with us during the enrollment process.
What does a typical week look like?
Our schedule changes as apprentices progress through the program. Educational days begin on Wednesdays and Fridays, with selected Thursdays and scheduled Saturdays. After foundational courses, Thursdays transition into alternating clinic days; later, Fridays also become clinic days while Wednesdays continue with education. Education and clinic days run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., including a one-hour lunch.
All apprentices also complete 100 hours of required online coursework outside scheduled class and clinic days, averaging approximately five hours per week over 20 weeks. Your Class calendar provides exact dates, breaks, and clinic assignments.
Do you bring in guest speakers?
Yes. In addition to learning alongside Certified Mentors, apprentices benefit from guest speakers who are experts in their specific techniques and approaches. These professionals are respected within the massage and bodywork community and offer valuable insight drawn from real-world experience.
Guest speakers allow apprentices to explore a variety of perspectives while maintaining the consistency of our apprenticeship model. This balance ensures that apprentices receive both a strong foundational education and exposure to diverse methods and philosophies within the profession.
What are the physical demands of massage therapy?
Massage therapy is a physically demanding profession that requires strength, endurance, body awareness, and proper technique. Apprentices must be able to safely and consistently perform the essential physical components of training and practice.
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, prolonged standing, repetitive upper body movements, sustained application of pressure, maintaining proper professional body mechanics, lifting and moving equipment, bending, kneeling, reaching, and maintaining the physical stamina necessary to complete hands-on training and client sessions.
Throughout the apprenticeship, Certified Mentors guide apprentices in developing sustainable habits, including posture, movement, and self-care practices. Participation in hands-on training may result in physical fatigue, muscle soreness, or aggravation of pre-existing conditions. Apprentices are encouraged to carefully consider their own physical health, endurance, strength, and overall ability to meet the demands of the Program.
What's the difference between an apprenticeship and mentorship?
While the terms are closely connected, they describe two different aspects of our educational philosophy.
An apprenticeship is the educational pathway approved by the Missouri State Board of Therapeutic Massage. Because our program is registered as an apprenticeship, individuals enrolled in the program are officially referred to as apprentices. The apprenticeship provides the structure of your education, combining classroom instruction, hands-on learning, supervised clinical experience, and preparation for state licensure.
Mentorship, on the other hand, is how that education comes to life.
At Integrative Institute of Massage & Bodywork, collaborative mentorship is woven throughout every aspect of the apprenticeship. Amanda and Tara serve together as a team of Certified Mentors, combining their knowledge, experience, and passion for education to support every apprentice's growth. Through classroom instruction, hands-on learning, and supervised clinical experiences, apprentices receive ongoing guidance, meaningful feedback, and encouragement in a collaborative learning environment.

Visiting the Institute
Can I visit the Institute before applying?
Absolutely. We encourage prospective apprentices to explore our website, take our virtual tour, and schedule an in-person visit if you'd like to experience our classroom and clinic environment firsthand. Visiting gives you the opportunity to meet us, ask questions, and determine whether our apprenticeship is the right fit for your goals.
What should I bring on my first day?
During the enrollment process, we’ll provide information about required supplies, dress expectations, schedules, technology, and program materials. Review these instructions before your first day and contact us with any questions so you arrive prepared.
Program Policies
What is your attendance policy?
Apprentices must attend all scheduled classes, clinic shifts, and required educational activities. All required hours must be completed, and missed time must be documented and made up through arrangements approved by your Certified Mentor. Notify us promptly about absences or late arrivals. Missed hours or unfinished requirements may delay program completion. See our Apprenticeship Catalog for attendance, makeup deadlines, and academic requirements.
What about my previous education? Can I transfer hours?
We respect the time, energy, and commitment involved in completing previous education. However, IIMB does not accept transfer hours from other massage therapy programs or prior anatomy and physiology coursework.
Our approximately six-month apprenticeship is designed as a cohesive learning experience. All apprentices complete our curriculum together, learning through our Certified Mentors’ expertise, teaching approach, and professional expectations. This shared foundation supports consistent skill development, collaborative learning, and continuity throughout the program.
Graduate Support
Is there a Graduation Ceremony?
Yes! We hold graduation ceremonies twice a year to celebrate our apprentices’ achievements, typically within eight weeks of a program completion date. We share the date, location, and participation details in advance so you can plan to celebrate with us.
Your official program completion date is based on meeting all academic, clinical, and financial requirements and is separate from the ceremony date.
Do you provide support after graduation?
Yes. Graduates receive career guidance, access to our Graduate Employment Resource, professional license application assistance, and transcript and records services.
We also host two alumni workshops each year and offer at least four continuing education courses annually. Apprentices and graduates receive 50% off courses taught by Amanda and Tara and 25% off apprentice clinic massage services, subject to availability. Workshop and course dates, fees, and registration details are announced as they become available.
